For the 22th year, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, will sponsor the July 4th celebration at Mills Park, Carson City, July 3-6, 2014. The highlight of the event will include a spectacular Independence Day pyrotechnic display at dusk.
Local musicians and bands are encouraged to apply to play in one of four openings scheduled for Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. All music genres are welcome but must be suitable for a family-friendly event and contain no offensive lyrics or stage show.
A professional stage and sound system will be available for use. Additional local businesses are also needed to sponsor these bands. All proceeds from the carnival go toward services for Carson City seniors designed to assist them to remain independent and in their own homes with dignity, said Susan Haas, Executive Director of RSVP. Programs include services such as escorted transportation, volunteer companions for those homebound, homemaker services, pro-bono legal services, mobility management, personal emergency response systems, free Farmer’s Market coupons and more.
RSVP’s mission is to help frail, homebound, and low-income seniors remain independent by providing high quality programs which allow them to stay in their own homes with dignity. Additionally, RSVP coordinates a volunteer network of seniors who use their skills and talents to provide support to community agencies and address community needs through service.
